Instantaneous gas hot
water systems give you plenty of hot water at a temperature you
choose.
Is this the type of system
for you?
Choosing an instantaneous gas
hot water system to replace your old electric hot water system
will reduce your electricity bills and your greenhouse
emissions.
Plus... you'll never run out
of hot water. Even if you have teenage daughters. :)
The newer generation of
instantaneous gas hot water systems have direct temperature
control. The electronically controlled thermostat makes sure
you get a constant water temperature with the maximum flow
rate. This means no more cold showers when the dish washer
kicks in.
When choosing your new system,
it's best to go with a model/brand that has a high flow rate.
Particularly if you have a larger household. Please note: If
you have more than a 3 bedroom home I would suggest installing
astorage type hot water
system with gas
boost rather than an instantaneous water heater.
Instantaneous systems are good
but for larger families a goodsolar hot
water system that
is gas boosted is a much better option (economically) in the
long run.
Thinking Instantaneous Hot
Water?
There are
many instantaneous hot water systems on the market. Some
of the better known brands are Rheem, Rinnai, Dux, Bosch,
Edwards...
With so
many different brands, systems, capacity, flow rates,
models and choices available it's hard to know what's
best for your requirements. And furthermore... which
system gives you the best government rebates and bang for
your buck.

Instantaneous hot water
systems (also known as demand or continuous-flow systems) only
heat the water as you use it. This is why you never run out of
hot water. Be careful though. Instantaneous models are only
economical when using gas energy.
If you have an instantaneous
hot water system running on electricity they are connected to
an unregulated power circuit which is the most expensive
electricity you can buy (tariff 11 - general light &
power). Instantaneous models are really good for units and
small houses or when space is an issue. For larger homes
ideally a storage system is best.
The upsides
of instantaneous models...
Unlike instantaneous electric
hot water systems, gas powered ones are often cheaper to run
than gas storage models with the same heating capacity. So if
you are not going with a solar powered storage unit with a gas
boost, an instantaneous model might be right for
you.
Consideration should also be
noted whether you have main supply gas available in the
area you live or bottled gas. Mains supply gas can
be a lot cheaper than bottled gas.
One of the BIG differences
between instantaneous and storage models is initial cost. It's
much cheaper (initially) to install an instantaneous
hot water system than a solar-gas boosted hot water system.
Although over the life-cycle of the two model types, solar
storage models win hands-down!
Instantaneous hot water
systems can suit a small or large family. If you have a
large active family, your situation might call for an
instantaneous hot water system so you don't find yourself
having *cold showers* in the middle of winter.
A never-ending supply of hot
water is one of the main factors why a lot of people
choose to install an instantaneous gas hot water
system.
